Brown Sugar Hot Chocolate
Wow, this hot cocoa is the real deal. Rich chocolate, so satisfying, and way better than any cocoa from a packet. Additionally, Brown Sugar Hot Chocolate can be made quickly in a sauce pan, and easily halved or doubled. You may want to triple the recipe after you taste it.
Homemade hot cocoa is the way to go. No dry packets that you mix with water.
This Brown Sugar Hot Chocolate blows that dry stuff out of the water with rich, delicious flavors of cocoa and semisweet chocolate.
Making Brown Sugar Hot Chocolate
First, decide how much you want, or for how many.
This recipe is enough for one or two people, depending on how much you want to serve at once.
For example, two people each would have 8 oz. of deliciousness.
Me? I make one of these for just myself. So good, I can’t wait for you to try it.
Ok, all you need is a sauce pan and a whisk or spoon.
Throw all the ingredients into the pan, then turn the stove on to medium heat.
Since you’re using milk and melting chocolate, you need to stir either very often, or constantly.
I stopped stirring only long enough to grab a glass from the cupboard…oh, and my marshmallows.
At medium heat, you won’t have long to wait.
The chocolate needs to melt (Doh!) and the brown sugar needs to dissolve.
This happens pretty fast, maybe 7 minutes? I didn’t time it, sorry.
But, you’ll also know it’s done once it starts to simmer.
That’s when you turn the heat off and pour it into your mug.
Cheers!
Topping Ideas
I always say…ok, not always, but usually…sometimes?…anyway, I like to decorate.
You can top this scrumptious hot cocoa with a Small Batch Whipped Cream. Delicious and lovely.
And, a sprinkling of chocolate sprinkles doesn’t go unappreciated.
Further, you can sprinkle on a dusting of either cinnamon or nutmeg.
Marshmallows…yes!!! Cute little floating pillows of yum.
What else, well…leave it in it’s simplicity. You don’t need a topping.
Also, this recipe is a great basis for my Butterscotch Cocoa Toddy, which is for adults only.
Please Hot Cocoa responsibly.

A quick mention of this wonderful blank recipe book that I helped to create with a very dear friend. Write in one or more recipes before giving it to that special person, then they can fill the remaining pages with their favorites, and/or have other special people write out recipes for them. It’s personal, and yes, it takes time and effort — something we’ve gotten away from with all this technology. Check it out HERE where you can order it in a hard or soft cover. Once there, click on READ SAMPLE to see the pages within. I especially like the “measurements and conversions” page. Also, I make no money from any sales, I just love the idea of this book. Missing my mom as I do, seeing her handwriting always makes me feel closer to her. Give that gift to someone else by writing out a favorite recipe.
