Cheddar Cheese Butter

This simple recipe takes two of my favorites into one. Cheddar Cheese Butter is perfect on dinner rolls, in biscuits, and in sandwiches as a spread. Only four ingredients are needed to upscale an ordinary butter, and it can be made in only 10 minutes.

Spread some Cheddar Cheese Butter on a hot dinner roll and watch it melt.

Better yet, take a bite and enjoy the soft buttery cheese with just a hint of pepper. Delicious.

Making Cheddar Cheese Butter

Ok, this is an easy one. Seriously.

You need a small bowl, just big enough to stir the ingredients in. I use a cereal bowl.

Mix the four ingredients together, and that’s it.

Ok, there’s a few details, but you probably figured them out already.

First, the butter needs to be softened, so that you can stir it when you add the other ingredients.

Second, finely grate the cheese. In other words, don’t use the big side, use the small side of the grater, or a zester. (Shown above.)

Once grated, the cheese feels super soft and will stir easily into the butter.

Finely grated cheddar is hard to resist snacking on, especially if you’re hungry. Plan on grating a little extra for the recipe. Yummy!

Also, don’t use store-bought pre-shredded cheese. That cheese is coated in a fine layer of starch, which prevents them from sticking to one another.

It also prevents the cheese from melting as nicely as freshly grated cheese from a brick.

Ok, this time that really is it. Mix all four ingredients together and serve room temperature.

Let’s go into that deeper.

The Cheddar Cheese Butter really does need to be room temperature before serving.

Why? As you know, butter and cheese get hard in the refrigerator. So, they go back to being hard, even after mixing in other ingredients.

Just take it out of the fridge an hour or two before serving it, and keep it covered.

It’s generally recommended that any hard cheese (like cheddar) not sit out longer than 4 hours before it runs the risk of becoming unsafe.

So, when not serving, store it in the fridge covered and it should last about a week.

You can also freeze Cheddar Cheese Butter. Store it in an air-tight container for 3 months.

Leave it in the freezer longer, and butter loses it’s buttery flavor, plus it can even pick up other flavors/odors from within the freezer.

A quick mention of this wonderful blank recipe book that I helped to create with a very dear friend. Write in one or more recipes before giving it to that special person, then they can fill the remaining pages with their favorites, and/or have other special people write out recipes for them. It’s personal, and yes, it takes time and effort — something we’ve gotten away from with all this technology. Check it out HERE where you can order a hard or soft cover. Once there, click on READ SAMPLE to see the pages within. I especially like the “measurements and conversions” page. Also, I make no money from any sales, I just love the idea of this book. Missing my mom as I do, seeing her handwriting always makes me feel closer to her. Give that gift to someone else by writing out a favorite recipe.
