Spicy Honey Chicken Drumsticks
Bake your Spicy Honey Chicken Drumsticks right in their marinade for a moist, delicious meal. The marinade is seasoned with ginger and hot pepper sauce, and flavored with soy sauce and sweet honey. It’s a tasty combination that’s super easy to make.
Do what little measuring and mixing there is to do in making the marinade, then let it sit until ready to bake.
It really is that simple.
Making Spicy Honey Chicken Drumsticks
Set out your 9 x13″ baking dish, as you make everything right inside of it.
Start with the marinade.
Combine the honey, soy sauce, chili sauce, ginger, dry mustard, and hot pepper sauce.
Stir this together and you have your marinade.
A few substitutions: if you don’t have any hot pepper sauce, use crushed red peppers instead.
Also, if you prefer to use fresh ginger, use about 2 tablespoons.
I know it seems like a lot more than what the recipe calls for with the ground ginger, but ground ginger is much more potent than fresh, so you have to use more fresh to get the same flavor.
Next, place your chicken drumsticks in the marinade and turn them so they are evenly coated.
Cover and refrigerate for at least an hour while the marinade does its magic.
You can also make this in the morning, then bake them that night for dinner.
When it is time to bake them, preheat the oven to 375° and uncover the dish.
Bake in the marinade for 50 – 60 minutes, or until the internal temperature reaches 165°.
Also, turn the drumsticks over half-way through the bake time to re-coat the chicken.
Making Spicy Honey Chicken Drumettes
Make this same recipe, but as an appetizer.
Use a dozen drumettes, which is the meaty part of a chicken wing, and half the marinade recipe.
Also, the baking dish can be smaller, something like a 7 x 11″.
The cook time is similar, maybe slightly less time, but with the same tasty, delicious results.
These are delicious served with Slow Cooker Cheesy Ham Au Gratin (as pictured below), or with Less Boring Wild Rice.

A quick mention of this wonderful blank recipe book that I helped to create with a very dear friend. Write in one or more recipes before giving it to that special person, then they can fill the remaining pages with their favorites, and/or have other special people write out recipes for them. It’s personal, and yes, it takes time and effort — something we’ve gotten away from with all this technology. Check it out HERE where you can order a hard or soft cover. Once there, click on READ SAMPLE to see the pages within. I especially like the “measurements and conversions” page. Also, I make no money from any sales, I just love the idea of this book. Missing my mom as I do, seeing her handwriting always makes me feel closer to her. Give that gift to someone else by writing out a favorite recipe.
What kind of chili sauce and what kind of hot sauce? It sounds wonderful!
Hi Gina…the Chili Sauce is by Heinz, and it’s sold with the ketchup. It comes in a glass bottle and it’s literally called “Chili Sauce.” The hot sauce is any kind you love or usually use. It only calls for 1 teaspoon of hot sauce, which is why I offered crushed red peppers as a substitute for those who don’t keep hot sauce on hand. I hope this helps.
