Salted Nut Bars

A layered dessert bar using peanuts, yellow cake, and of course, chocolate.

Materials

  • 1 yellow cake mix
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • 1 egg
  • 3 cups miniature marshmallows
  • 2 cups salted peanuts
  • 2 cups Rice Krispies
  • 12 oz. bag semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup light corn syrup
  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°. Grease a 13 x 9 baking pan.
  • Mix cake, 1/4 cup melted butter, and egg. Press into greased pan. Bake 10 - 12 minutes. Remove from oven.
  • Place marshmallows over cake and return to oven for approx. 3 minutes until marshmallows puff up.
  • In medium bowl, mix peanuts and Rice Krispies.
  • Melt baking chips with corn syrup and 1/2 cup butter. Add vanilla. Pour over nuts and Rice Krispies and stir. Spread over marshmallows.
  • Cool. Cut into bars when set. Keeps well in container in refrigerator or freezer. Don't refrigerate before cutting into bars, gets too stiff.
