Grinch Cookies

Grinch Cookies are fun to make, perfect for Christmas or cookie swaps, and kids (of all ages) love them. These cookies are so good, even the Grinch himself would show up at your door asking for seconds. Not that you have to let him in. Boundaries are healthy!

Equipment

  • 1 Stand mixer

Materials

  • 3 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp. almond extract
  • few drops green food coloring
  • 3 oz. bottle green sanding sugar
  • 72 red heart-shaped sprinkles
  • 1 Tbsp. Wilton's Sparkle Gel (or green frosting)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350° and line two cookie sheets with parchment paper.
  • Whisk together dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  • In large bowl, cream butter and sugar for 2 minutes, or until light and fluffy. Add eggs, one at a time, then extracts. Beat until combined.
  • Reduce speed to LOW and gradually add flour mixture and green food coloring. Beat just until combined and soft dough is formed.
  • Using a rounded tablespoon, roll dough into balls, then roll in sanding sugar. Place on cookie sheet 2 inches apart.
  • Bake for 9 - 11 minutes. Let cool completely on wire rack.
  • Place a dot of Sparkle Gel or frosting on heart sprinkle, then gently place heart on cookie. Enjoy!
