Making a Classic Apple Crisp

First, preheat your oven to 350ยฐF, then, lightly grease an 8 x 11-inch or 9 x 9-inch baking dish with butter, Crisco, or non-stick spray. I prefer butter, because I love me some BUTTER!

Prepare the apples:
In a large bowl, toss sliced Golden Delicious apples with sugar, cinnamon, and lemon juice. Spread evenly in your prepared baking dish. You can also use Gala or Honey Crisp apples.

Make the crisp topping:
In another bowl, mix brown sugar, flour, oats, cinnamon, and salt. Then, grate the cold butter over the dry mixture in batches, stirring often so the grated butter gets coated with the dry mixture and doesn’t stick to itself. Also, make sure that the butter is very cold. You can even put it in the freezer for a few minutes before you get to this part.

Alternatively, you can add the cubed cold butter pieces and use your fingers or a pastry cutter to work it in until the mixture forms coarse crumbs.

Assemble:
Next, sprinkle the oat topping evenly over the apples. Oh! This is going to be so good!

Bake:
Place (uncovered) in the preheated oven and bake for 45โ€“50 minutes, or until the apples are bubbly and the topping is golden brown.

Cool slightly:
Let it rest for 10โ€“15 minutes before serving to allow the juices to thicken.
