Chocolate Cutout Cookies

Chocolate cookie dough perfect for cutting out with cookie cutters.

Materials

Cookies:

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp. vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup baking cocoa

Dip/drizzle:

  • 1 cup vanilla or white chips
  • 2 Tbsp. shortening, divided
  • 1/2 cup semisweet chocolate chips

Instructions

Cookies:

  • Preheat oven to 375°.
  • In large bowl, beat butter, sugar, and vanilla until well combined.
  • In small bowl, mix flour with cocoa. Gradually add to butter mixture.
  • On lightly floured surface, roll out dough to 1/4" thickness. Cut out shapes and place 2" apart on ungreased cookie sheet.
  • Bake for 9 - 11 minutes or until firm. Remove to wire racks to cool.

Dip/drizzle:

  • In microwave safe bowl, heat vanilla chips and 1 tablespoon shortening until melted, stirring often. (Follow melting instructions on bag of chips.)
  • Dip cookies into melted chips, then place back onto wire rack or onto waxed paper.
  • For chocolate drizzle, melt chocolate chips and remaining shortening according to package directions. Stir until smooth and creamy. Drizzle over cookies. Enjoy!
