Materials

  • 24 cookies (such as gingersnap, shortbread, or Golden Oreos) See Notes
  • 2 - 21 oz. cans cherry pie filling
  • 21 oz. box Krusteaz Cinnamon Swirl cake mix
  • 3/4 cup (or 1 1/2 sticks) salted butter, cold, thinly sliced

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 350°.
  • Lay cookies in single layer in a 13 x 9" baking dish.
  • Spread the two cans of pie filling evenly over the cookies.
  • Sprinkle the cake mix evenly over the pie filling, followed by the second packet of brown sugar mix. Do not stir.
  • Thinly cut the cold butter into 35 pats of butter to cover the top of the dessert (5 slices wide by 7 slices lengthwise). You can also cut the butter the long way with a cheese slicer.
  • Bake for 45 minutes. Enjoy!

Notes

Amount for cookies is approximate based on what size and shape cookies you use, plus how your baking dish is shaped. Square cookies will fit tighter, thereby requiring more. Also, cookies can be homemade or store bought.
The original recipe used 1 - 30 oz. can of pie filling, but I like the extra from using 2 - 21 oz. cans.
Also, the gingersnap cookies give it just a little kick of spice -- delicious!
