Making Cinnamon Swirl Cherry Dessert

First, I have to say, this is such an easy dump-n-bake dessert, that you better hold onto your apron. Here goes.

Lay the cookies down in a single layer in the 13 x 9″ baking dish. Crust is done.

Quick note: you can use store bought or homemade cookies, such as my Best Ever Gingersnap Cookies.

Spread the two cans of cherry pie filling over the cookies. That was easy.

Cinnamon Swirl Cherry Dessert is easy to make in a 13 x 9-inch baking dish.

Next, Open the box of Krusteaz Cinnamon Swirl cake mix. Inside, there are two bags. Sprinkle the white bag over the pie filling, which is the cake.

Then, sprinkle the bag with the brown sugar mixture in it, which is the “swirl” part, but don’t swirl it, because today we’re just dumping. Done.

Ok, now the hard part, if you want to call it that. Slice the butter into many squares (or rectangles) to cover the top as much as possible. For instance, I cut 35 slices and laid them out 5 wide x 7 long, which is shown in the picture below.

In addition, make sure the butter is cold; this definitely helps.

Only four ingredients are needed for this delicious treat that's makes enough to share.

Then, bake uncovered for 45 minutes, and that’s it. As a result, your kitchen should be smelling pretty amazing about now. Great job!

Easy Variations of this Cinnamon Swirl Cherry Dessert

Notes

Amount for cookies is approximate based on what size and shape cookies you use, plus how your baking dish is shaped. Square cookies will fit tighter, thereby requiring more. Also, cookies can be homemade or store bought.
The original recipe used 1 – 30 oz. can of pie filling, but I like the extra from using 2 – 21 oz. cans.
Also, the gingersnap cookies give it just a little kick of spice — delicious!
