Seriously, the best broccoli side dish I’ve ever had, and it’s only 3 ingredients. Not only is it easy to make, but it goes with most everything. The melted butter is mixed with grated Parmesan cheese, which is then drizzled over the crisp-tender steamed broccoli. So delicious. This Buttered Parmesan Broccoli recipe is just too good not to share.

At my house, Buttered Parmesan Broccoli is a “go to” all the time, and not just because it’s good for you.

Having said that…broccoli does has a reputation as a super food. It’s low in calories, but contains a heap of nutrients and antioxidants that support many aspects of our health.

Also, the general consensus is that steaming broccoli is the best way to cook it for maximum nutritional content. Who knew?

So the cute “little trees” are healthy for you, and the melted butter and parmesan cheese make it taste amazing.

Steaming broccoli

Place a steaming basket into a pot that has a lid. Put enough water in the bottom to where the water level comes just to the bottom of the basket, usually about an inch or so of water.

Wash the head of broccoli, then cut into florets leaving as much stem as you like.  Set the florets in the basket, then cover the pot with the lid.

Next, turn the stove on to medium-high in order to bring the water to a boil. Once it reaches that boil, reduce the heat to medium-low and set your timer for 10 minutes.

Depending on how crisp-tender you like your broccoli, the cook time can range from 10 – 15 minutes.

You can always check for doneness by sticking a fork into a stem. If the stem still feels hard, keep steaming it for another 5 minutes and re-check…unless you like it very crisp.

Bring in the buttery parmesan cheese.

While the broccoli is steaming, melt the butter in a small bowl in the microwave, then add your parmesan cheese to the butter and mix.

Once the broccoli is done cooking, remove the pot from the heat and pull the basket from the pot. Be very careful of the steam, it’s going to be hot.

Place the broccoli in your serving bowl and drizzle the melted butter with parmesan cheese over each floret. Serve immediately and tickle your taste buds with that scrumptiousness. So yummy!

For some great ideas of what to serve this steamed broccoli recipe with, try my Cheese Manicotti or Spicy Turkey Spinach Roll Ups.

It also pairs nicely with beef, such as my favorite Slow Cooker Chuck Roast with Taters. And let’s not forget pork, chicken, and fish. What can I say, I’m clearly a fan. lol

Loved this – also i added fresh lemon juice. In lieu of steaming in a pot separate from serving bowl, steamed in microwave, drained the small amount of water and stirred the luscious butter/ parm / lemon into cooked broccoli-many thx.
