What Is Stick of Butter Rice?
Stick of Butter Rice, sometimes called French Onion Rice or Church Lady Rice, is an oven-baked rice dish that gets its deep, savory flavor from beef consommรฉ and French onion soup. Yummy!
A stick of unsalted butter melts over the top, soaking into every grain and giving the rice a rich, tender texture. Extra yummy!
The addition of Parmesan cheese adds a subtle nuttiness and cheesy depth youโll love.

Let’s Start Cookin’
First, preheat your oven to 400ยฐ. Also, place the rack in the center position of your oven.
Next, in a baking dish, such as an 8 x 8″ or 9 x 11,” stir together the uncooked long grain rice, beef consommรฉ, French onion soup, Parmesan cheese, and garlic powder.
Further, do not add the water called for on the cans of soup.
Then, lay the butter slices evenly over the top of the rice mixture.
Before baking, cover the dish tightly with foil (or a lid) and bake for 30 minutes.
Next, carefully remove the foil and stir so that the liquid can be absorbed more evenly. Continue to bake for another 25 – 30 minutes. It’s done when the liquid has all been absorbed.

Serving Suggestions
Before serving, fluff with a fork, and garnish with parsley, cilantro, or diced green onion if desired. Serve warm, but more importantly, enjoy.
Stick of Butter Rice is the perfect side dish for beef, chicken, pork, or even grilled vegetables.
Its savory flavor makes it especially good with Slow Cooker Pulled Beef, Turkey Meatloaf, Baked Parmesan Chicken, or Pork Ribs or Pork Chops.
