Butterscotch Cocoa Toddy
Warm yourself from the inside out with this delicious Butterscotch Cocoa Toddy. It’s a hot drink with a spot of alcohol and some fun optional toppings. Toss on some mini marshmallows, a squirt of whipped cream, and a slew of chocolate sprinkles. Not only a Fall favorite, but also great for those cold winter days.
This is a pretty simple treat to make, just 2 ingredients unless you want to count the water.
Still, it’s such a delicious flavor; the smooth butterscotch with sweet milk chocolate that I have to share this recipe with you.
Making a Butterscotch Cocoa Toddy
Microwave Preparation
Start yourself off with a 12 oz. glass. If it’s microwavable, that’s all the better, less to wash.
Heat the 10 oz. of water in the glass for 1.5 – 2 minutes in the microwave until it’s bubbly-hot.
Stove Top Preparation
Heat the water in a small sauce pan or pot until it begins to boil. Pour water into a 12 oz. glass.
With that done, stir the cocoa mix into the glass with the hot water. My favorite hot cocoa mix is Nestle Classic Rich Milk Chocolate. It turns out super delicious every time.
Here’s where things get interesting…add in the butterscotch schnapps and give it a stir.
Yummy. How yummy? So yummy!
Hiram Walker is my favorite brand of schnapps, consistently smooth and scrumptious.
Actually, instead of using butterscotch, this recipe also works great with peppermint schnapps for more of a Christmas flare.
Optional (and equally delicious) toppings
I’ve enjoyed this particular hot toddy many a night, so I speak from experience about these toppings.
To properly layer them in Lori fashion, toss on some mini marshmallows. Specifically, put on enough to fully cover the surface.
There is a weird reason for this madness and it goes like this; the mini marshmallows put a barrier between the hot toddy and the whipped cream, however brief.
This stops the whipped cream from melting too quickly into the toddy. I told you it was weird.
So now, squirt on a full pyramid of whipped cream. You know, those super fun cans that you squirt directly into your mouth when you think nobody is looking.
Last, but possibly most important, sprinkle on some chocolate sprinkles.
Now, you can top it all off with a classic Maraschino cherry if you like, but I find that the weight of them squashes the whipped cream too much.
Ha! Who am I kidding, throw that cherry on top!

I would be remiss if I didn’t say to drink responsibly. The warm cozy glass and the alcohol tends to inspire afternoon naps.
