Creamy French Onion Dip
Ditch the tub-o-dip for some homemade, delicious Creamy French Onion Dip. This made-from-scratch version of a party classic dip has sautรฉed onions and garlic that far out-way the tub of convenience. Quick and easy is nice, but the difference between the two is worth the effort.

This dip is easy to make. All you need is a skillet and a food processor.
Sautรฉ the onions, shallots, and garlic until they are sweet and caramelized. Let them cool, then they go into the food processor with a few other ingredients. And that’s it.
Let it chill in the fridge, and you’ll have one amazing dip.

Making Creamy French Onion Dip
In a large skillet over medium heat, add the olive oil.
Next, add the chopped onions, shallots, garlic, salt, and pepper. Sautรฉ until the onions are browned and caramelized, about 15 – 18 minutes, stirring occasionally.
If the garlic begins to brown too much, add a few tablespoons of water and continue cooking.
Your kitchen should be deliciously aromatic about now.

Allow the onion mixture to cool for 10 minutes, then transfer to a food processor and puree until smooth.
Add the cottage cheese, thyme, and marjoram. Puree again until smooth.
For a more tart flavor, substitute half the cottage cheese for sour cream. In other words, use 8 oz. of cottage cheese and 8 oz. of sour cream.
Stir in the chopped chives, reserving a few for garnish on top, and you’re done.
The dip can be served immediately, but benefits from being chilled for 4 hours or overnight allowing the flavors to meld together. I call this process “fridge magic,” and it’s a real thing. A wonderful thing.

Serving Creamy French Onion Dip
This appetizer dip has a delicious creamy flavor that goes with so many things. Crackers and toasted baguettes, of course, as well as crispy vegetables, such as celery and bell peppers.
Don’t stop there, though. If you’re making yourself a sandwich, add a smear of this dip instead of plain ol’ mayo for an added flavor.
