Gooey Butter Cake

Also known as a Neiman Marcus Cake, because of how “rich” it tastes, this Gooey Butter Cake is a two-layer classic. The cake is as delicious as it is easy to make using a cake mix base and a creamy, tangy cream cheese topping, making this treat perfect for any occasion.

Gooey Butter Cake is rich, sweet, and so very easy to make.

I took liberties with mine and added strawberries, which is optional, yet delicious. It’s perfectly scrumptious plain, but it’s fun to change it up with chocolate chips, nuts, or strawberries.

It’s super flexible and just plain simple to make. Check it out.

Making a Gooey Butter Cake

Start by preheating your oven to 350° and greasing a 13 x 9″ baking dish.

Next, let’s make the bottom layer.

Super easy, just mix together a box of yellow cake mix with two eggs, melted butter, and some vanilla. (See recipe card for specific amounts.)

The batter will be thick. Press the batter into an even layer in the baking dish, which I find easiest to do with my hands.

Gooey Butter Cake has two delicious layers of sweetened cream cheese and cake mix base.

Then, make the second layer.

Beat the cream cheese and powdered sugar together, then add in the eggs, one at a time until combined.

Next, simply pour this mixture over the cake layer. Gently spread it out so it’s nice and even.

Add any toppings you’re interested in, such as sliced strawberries, nuts, or chocolate chips, (or leave it plain) then bake for 35 minutes.

Let the cake cool on a wire rack, then enjoy!
