Cheater Bread Sticks
Cut out the hard part, and make these delicious bread sticks with ease. Cheater Bread Sticks use Pillsbury bread sticks, then you flavor them with seasoned oil, your favorite seasonings, then give them a fancy twist. Everything tastes better when it looks fancy.
What a fun and easy way to make bread sticks. The majority of the work is done for you by purchasing the dough, then you get to customize them.
I used a seasoned olive oil, which is optional. You can use plain. I liked the additional herbs and garlic that were in the oil.
Additionally, you can season the sticks with your favorite spices and herbs. I used Italian seasoning, then Parmesan cheese. Lots and lots of cheese. Yummy!
Alternatively, you could use garlic powder, onion powder, and/or dried parsley. Crushed red pepper? Sure, why not. These are so easy to make that you’ll have time to go through all your spices and see what you have or haven’t used in a while.
Making Cheater Bread Sticks
Start by opening one of those explosive containers of Pillsbury bread sticks. POP! Makes me jump every time.
The bread sticks have been pre-cut, but are still held together by perforations, which need to be cut. Right, so cut them.
Pour your oil into a shallow plate, then lay a few of the bread sticks in the oil. Flip them over, then lay them on a baking sheet. Sprinkle the seasoning one side, plus the Parmesan cheese, then it’s time to twist.
Twisting Bread Sticks
Here’s what I did: grab both ends of one bread stick. In reverse directions, twist two half turns, so the ends are seasoned-side up. It helps to pretend that the center is stuck and can’t move.
This way, the seasoned side shows its color, while the under side is plain. Looks awesome!
Time to Bake
In a preheated oven , bake according to package directions. You may have purchased the store brand, or something other than Pillsbury. Mine said 375° for 13 – 15 minutes, or until golden brown, and that’s what I did. Turned out amazing.
It’s so simple and easy, but they turn out looking fantastic, plus they taste even better than they look.
Serving Suggestions
Cheater Bread Sticks are super delicious served warm, to start off with. Serve them plain or with butter.
Or, pick your dipping sauce. I love a warm Homemade Marinara Sauce or some gravy. And let’s not forget Buttermilk Ranch Dressing. Yes!
Serve them either as an appetizer, or have them as a side dish with your Slow Cooker Beef Roast or 30 Minute Lazy Lasagna. My favorite is anything with gravy or tomato sauce, then use these bread sticks to mop up the plate.
Love Me Some Bread
If you have even LESS time than this recipe takes to make, you have an even easier option. Instead of buying the Pillsbury Bread Sticks, buy the French Bread.
Here’s what you do: pour the oil into a large cast iron skillet. Lay the bread dough in the oil, flip over. Sprinkle on the seasonings and Parmesan, then bake per package directions. You’ll have to cut it once it’s done baking, or you could go fully caveman and tear off chunks. Easy, right?
